Description: While, individual students’ scores on a standardized assessment is the twenty-first century measure of school success, standardized testing and the pressure to teach to the test, does not necessarily result in exposure to instruction that requires students to think critically, nor does it ensure that students are exposed to instruction that is characterized by rigor; in fact, the national focus on standardized testing has, in some instances, resulting in diminished rigor of instruction. With the Common Core Standards, rigor is fully integrated into the curriculum, but how do teachers translate this national directive into action? This workshop will equip participants (teachers and school leaders) with the skills necessary to make daily instructional rigor actionable across grade levels and content areas for all student groups.
